Let is snow...in Texas!

Hello Everyone! Alright! I've joined the blogging world. So go easy on my if I don't get everything right the first time, but I thought this would be a great time to tell you about our history making week here in Fort Worth. It was "supposed to snow" this week and I know they got an inch or two here on Christmas eve so I wasn't expecting anything really. Boy were we surprised. We woke up Thursday morning with four inches of snow on the ground and it continued to snow all day long! It was heavy, wet snow, perfect for snow balls and snow men. It snowed and snowed and snowed. We got a total of 12.5 inches of snow in one day! They haven't seen that much snow all at once here since 1964! Wow and in 1972 for the entire year the record was 17.2 inches. We're already at 15 inches this year. It was pretty nuts around here. Schools were all closed. 120.000 homes lost power. Branches were downed everywhere because the snow was so heavy. It kind of reminded me of damage from a hurricane but not quite as bad and snow everywhere instead of rain. There's not a snowplow in the city. So everybody just comes out and plays in the snow. We called our road snowman alley because every house had a couple snowmen built (probably more than you ever see in Utah because everyone's used to it up there). We made a little Gibson family of snowmen that started leaning after a while until they finally fell because they were so wet. It was a fun time to visit with our neighbors and just enjoy some down time. For once, though, we were very unprepared because we left all our snow stuff up in Utah. Friday it stopped snowing and we ventured out in the car to check out some of the damage. That ended us up in a cultisac at the bottom of a hill that we couldn't get out of because of all the snow. Some neighbors lent us some flat shovels and we dug for and hour until we knew we'd be able to get out ok. it really was pretty crazy around here and a lot of fun. Sad to say but by the end of Saturday (the next day) after the sun came out about 90% of the snow was gone. Just like that. I really can't believe how fast it came and went but it was such wet snow that it melted pretty easy. We still have some snow in our yard and everywhere you go you'll see big mound here and there where a snowman used to be. What a crazy week. Who knows what next week will bring? We also had fun with the Tensmeyers in town too. Unfortunately Andi got pneumonia and RSV the day they arrived and that was really scary. It's hard for little bodies to handle those big sicknesses. Luckily we caught it early, though, and she's recovering well. Some of the fun things we did with KariAnn and her fam were: the children's museum, bowling on my birthday, Medieval Times, and just staying up late playing cards and talking after the little ones had gone to bed. (Monopoly deal-great game). Their girls are so cute but three is definitely a handful. I think we'll wait a while before the next one comes along. We're enjoying our little Andi. She's getting into everything. She loves any kind of water including bathtime, her sippy that she shakes to get water on herself, and of course, playing in the toilet water. Gross! Feeding time is fun for her. She does this thing lately of reaching out her hand to us. We'll reach out ours to her too and tickle her fingertips and she loves it. She's getting more adamant about what she wants and doesn't listen to "no" so much. She shakes her head "no" now too. And my quest for a spotless house is pretty laughable now. Oh well. We'll keep trying. For now we just laugh off the mess and enjoy our sweet baby girl, the little cheeser.
